Write a letter to the newspaper in your community about the concerns or positive comments you have about your local government’s actions or lack of actions.  You need to look up the exact name, specific address (including location), email, or fax#  of the newspaper and follow the newspaper’s guidelines for letters. This letter should be short and to the point.  This assignment fulfills the Core Objectives of Communication and Social Responsibility.

1. Pick a topic that specific local officials can address—e.g., policing, traffic issues, public schools, littering, and traffic lights.  Some other issues include public education curriculum, parks and recreation, or what the city council or county commission does.  Specify what local government is being discussed in your letter. You do NOT have to provide names of specific individuals.
2. Then give a specific suggestion for what course of action you think should be taken or, if complimentary, what exactly was done well.
3. Put the newspaper’s name, location, and address, fax #, or email needed for letters at the top of your letter.
4. This letter should be at least two (2) paragraphs.  It should be written in good English with proper punctuation and spelling.  The letter should be in proper letter form:  date at the top left; then give the name of the newspaper and address/email according to the newspaper's requested format.  Then present the body of the letter.  And finally type your name, address, and/or what the newspaper requests to identify you.
