The first thing I would do with cognitive learning is have an open discussion on what we are talking about. With having an open discussion students will be able to express themselves as to what they believe and think on the subject. This would help English language learners by allowing them to speak their mind and to work on their oral language while speaking. With metacognitive learning I would give students some what of a pretest to see where they are with what we are learning. This can give me data as to where students need to be and what I need to help them work on. For vocabulary, this can mean giving them a word bank and having them match trhe word with the definition. Language learning is where the real intense learning begins, I would use a combintion of books, words, pictures and sentence strips to help the student learn the langage. By starting with pictures the studnet can compare the words and the pictures to make a conclusion as to what the word means and what it looks like. This can also be a picture of the word written. Sentence strips gives the students piece of the sentence to complete and the student will then have to place the correct word on the line. This is similar to having a word bank for students to match with the definition, the difference is students will be given a sentence to complete instead of the definition. Comment as you see fit.
