Assessment Description
This assessment will demonstrate your understanding of the: -
• payroll process, including the calculation and recording of weekly pays using manual
system
• the associated theoretical concepts that underpin the payroll process.
You should be able to demonstrate the following outcomes: -
• Use employee source data to calculate and record and reconcile payroll according to
legislative requirements
• Prepare the payroll, including the payroll register and associated journal
• Recording payroll data
• Handle a payroll enquiry
• Maintain payroll information
Company Policies and Procedures document is provided in the separate document.
Section 2 – Assessment Task Submission Information

Due date: 20/09/2020
1. The assessment task must be submitted via Canvas or directly to the teacher
with an assessment cover sheet.

3 Prepare the Payroll Register for week 1
4 Prepare the Payroll Register for week 2
5 Prepare the Payroll Register for week 3
6 Prepare the Payroll Register for week 4
7 Calculate Superannuation Guarantee
8 Prepare the General Journal entries to record the payroll for each of the 4 weeks
9 Prepare the Cash payments journal entry to record the payment of the payroll liabilities at
the end of June
10 Review payroll data and clarify discrepancies with designated persons (teacher)
11 Conduct payroll preparation within designated timeframes and according to organisational
policy and procedures
12 Update records and systems in line with salary reviews
13 Respond to payroll enquiries, provide information and complete follow-up action according
to organisational and legislative requirements
14 Maintain information and record keeping relating to payroll function according to current
legislative and regulatory

Comprehensive Assessment - Smart Jewellery Co Scenario
Smart Jewellery Co is a small company that sells handmade jewellery. The company employs 4
people – Office Manager, Bookkeeper (part -time), Sales Manager and Sales Assistant.
Ruby Shimmer, the Office Manager, is required to authorize/approve payroll documentation.
Additional Information
Payroll Calendar: Weekly
• Overtime:
o According to company policies all overtime is done on Mondays
o All overtime is to be paid at 1½ times the ordinary rate of pay applicable for the first 3
hours and double time after that – per overtime shift.
• All employees are entitled to annual leave loading.
• Opal is getting married in July and is taking Annual Leave. In addition to her normal week
earnings on June 24th
, she is also to be paid 4 weeks annual leave in advance.
• Payroll liabilities are paid on the last day of each month
• Employees are paid by Direct Debit each week to their nominated bank account
