Childhood immunization is a state-directed process that applies to all school-age children. Certain immunizations (measles–mumps–rubella [MMR], polio, diphtheria–pertussis–tetanus [DPT]) are designated at key times prior to and during the school-age years. What is happening with the growing number of homeschooled children? Are they receiving these immunizations? What happens when these children come into acute care settings without having received the expected childhood immunization series?
