Expert Solution
I was really happy taking this class and learning more about the topics given. I took this class primarily to learn more about a subject that was not thoroughly taught in my previous schools and is not thoroughly taught in the education system in general. Coming into college was the first time I had learned about indigenous boarding schools. I think that was something that stuck with me as I continued through winter and spring term and eventually came to learn more about it in this class as well. I think one of my favorite things was to learn more about recent issues involving Native American culture and the struggles they still face today. This came in current films and research conducted by myself for homework assignments. I have always been a visual learner, so films helped me to visualize the people who are impacts and put an image to those who continue to involve traditional native american culture in their day to day lives.
Because I came into this class with a very open mind I did not have anything in mind about specific things I wanted to learn. More I came into this class with the mindset of educating myself on whatever information was given. In this way I cannot think of many things that could be added or removed. I think everything that was added was done so to give the best possible image and provide the most information for the topic of every week. Perhaps some weeks I felt there was too much to read and so I picked and chose what I wanted to read and use in the discussion. In this way, maybe removing the amount of articles given would be better for those who normally have a large workload. Otherwise I think I was very happy with what was given. The articles helped to debunk stereotypes and formulate a better educated opinion on a lot of controversial topics such as land, water, and resource management. I think a lot of native american mindsets surrounding conservation can be brought into western culture- particularly our governing system. Thank you for allowing this class to happen and allowing your students to be able to raise proper awareness about these topics.
