Prompt In module 3, we saw examples of how access to land and credit are essential to food production

Prompt

In module 3, we saw examples of how access to land and credit are essential to food production. However, there access is unequally distributed in society across different dimensions: generational, race, gender, class, etc.

Public policy is one reason for some unequal access to land and capital. Other barriers arise from economic, social, or other institutional factors in society. Public policy can be used to reduce barriers from any source as well.

  • Choose 1 barrier to land or capital and describe:
    • Who is impacted (by characteristics, such as new farmers without access to family land or resources, under-advantaged groups, or intersections of those characteristics)?
    • What is the barrier?
  • Then suggest a policy to address the barrier you chose. For your policy, address how you are incorporating the following information to justify your policy choice:
    • Facts (Science/Technology/Physical Reality): Are there ways that the policy has to be tailored to account for the physical realities of the world?
    • Values (Social/Cultural): Are there pervasive social or cultural issues that this policy can assist in overcoming, or aspirations to work toward?
    • Law/Economics: Are there legal or economic barriers that the policy must overcome? Or can the policy leverage legal or market forces to create more equitable access to land or capital?

Guidelines

A complete and meaningful response to the discussion prompt will earn the required points. You may instead choose to respond to another student's original response to the prompt, which will also count as points if it is complete and meaningful, for example, raises additional support for an argument, respectfully challenges a position, or raises meaningful questions.

In each Discussion forum, if you both respond to the original prompt and engage in a dialog with a classmate in an exchange of more than 2 posts (your original post or a classmate's), you can earn an additional one point in that forum, gaining an additional point on the Discussion.

Expert Solution

As I read from week three learning material, I would like to talk about the “Racial Discrimination in Agricultural Policies” because I think it is a very large problem and topic to discuss about. For sure that inequality of the race is happening here due to the history. People who get effect from this impact would be the black farmer because they got unfair support and judgement. This unfair discrimination still keeps happening in present day in some way, color farmers still get unfair treated as they should get as others. In my view, this is a sensitive topic to talk about and need to be totally solved. There should be some policy from the government that provide clear rule stating the equality for all citizens, not focusing on the race. Also, the government should also force the private lenders company to have the fair policy for the customers, no matters what race they are. If no one follow, they would get the punishment.
