This summer South Carolina launched a campaign to halt "co-sleeping' of parents and infants in the same bed

Health Science

This summer South Carolina launched a campaign to halt "co-sleeping' of parents and infants in the same bed.

The South Carolina concern occurred when the incidence of adults rolling over and suffocating children rose.

Do you see this as a community health issue? How do you think you should target the population?

Co-sleeping has been an issue for many communities. I do think it is a community issue because parental behavior can only be changed through community efforts to reinforced the preferred behavior and educate parents as to the dangers of co-sleeping. The population can be targeted through advertisement campaigns that educate parents on the dangers. These can be TV ads, newspaper ads or articles, billboards and pamphlets. The ideal placement for pamphlets would be where most of the target population frequents (a study would have to be done to determine this). Pamphlets available at clinics, supermarkets, schools, daycares etc. would be a good place to begin.
