Firm's positioning strategies focus on how to compete in the market. An effective positioning and repositioning strategies consider the strengths and weakness of the organisation, the needs of the customers and market and position of competitors.
The brand of the company is how people recognise the firm. It may either be a name, a logo, a symbol or even the name of the owner. Brand positioning means to target consumer reason to buy the product of the company in preference to other competitors.
Positioning is a marketing strategy that aims to make a brand occupy a distinct position compared to other companies. It ensures that all rand activities has a common aim which is directed to brand's benefits. Positioning can be done through various ways like, Quality Positioning, Value Positioning, Benefit Positioning etc
Whereas repositioning refers to major change in positioning for product. To successfully reposition a product, the firm has to change the target markets understanding about the product. Firms mostly consider repositioning due to declining performance or other reasons. Repositioning can be in various ways like, brand relaunch, brand rejuvenation, brand proliferation, etc.
Uses of these strategies are:
-- To understand the brand's strengths and weakness from customer perspective.
--Know how customers perceive the brand.
--To understand which benefits are most important to customers and which of those can uniquely own the customer minds
--To understand how different customer groups perceive brand's products differently.
