The best way to develop Strategic Plans is to use the SWOT Analysis. It probes the relationship between an organizations Strengths, its Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. That being said, a good plan is one that takes understanding of one’s strengths and how it be used o take advantages of opportunism whilst minimizing threats and weaknesses at the least cost/risk possible

A Business Model refers to the methodology that a business currently or plans to use in generating utility or value, delivering such value, getting value in return, what type of customers that will, in turn, receive its value and return value for utility provided.

Two examples:

Konica Minolta: They are currently having one foot in the grave and the other on the banana peel. The Copier/printer world is dying and they are slow to the change. Without having a great plan, the company will fail within 10 years. They need to fundamentally shift their business model to a brand-new product like they did back in 2009.

FedEx: 5 years ago, FedEx wanted to expand to Europe and different parts of the middle East. They bought a company in Europe and it has been a total mess ever since. They had the largest ransomware hack. They are behind in getting the company integrated into FedEx due to cultural difference, which they seem not to care about, and they keep pouring billions in to a company they bought for 600 mill.
