One of the bigger questions here is in what ways was the Declaration is a departure from the preceding documents and why? 
What do you think might have been done to avoid the war, or was war inevitable at some point? And keep in mind that we are look back 200 years and see these men as obviously laying down the foundations for the creation of our modern nation, but at the time they were "traitors," rebelling against the established and heretofore accepted government.
