Managing a business or organisation is complex and it requires skills to succeed. 

Apply the theory that you have learned from the book by answering the following questions: 

 

Question 1 [9 marks]

 

Operations management is about transformation of inputs to outputs. Imagine you have three businesses which are: 

a) a clinic (3)

b) a butchery (3) 

c) a farmers' shoe manufacturing (3)

 

In a form of a table, provide Three (3) examples of the type of inputs, transformation and outputs for each business type.  

 

                                                     

Question 2 [25 marks]

 

Answer the following questions based to planning (Chapter 7)

Assume you were employed by the two shareholders Mr. Paulus Kaperu and Mr. Romeo Theron to manage and run their Multivitamins tablets manufacturing business in Rehoboth. After signing an employment contract the two shareholders briefed you that the mission of the company is to be a leading health organisation in Namibia in 10 years' time. You Ms. Denise Visser (you can replace with your own name) will be the General Manager (GM) of VITAMINS manufacturing (Pty) Ltd. and have to start it up from scratch for us. Refer to table 7.2 on page 219 to answer the below questions: 

 

With happiness, Ms. Visser signed the contract, and without wasting anytime, she started planning for the future and the establishment of VITAMINS manufacturing (Pty) Ltd.

 

2.1 What are the important four (4) functional management areas will you include in the business.          (4)

 

2.2 Outline two (2) reasons why the identified functional areas in 2.1 will best fit with VITAMINS manufacturing (Pty) Ltd.                                                                                           (8)

 

2.3 What are the two (2) key aspects area / activities that you will included in each identified functional area.       (8)           

   Don't copy theory, explain by applying to the business in the case.                                 

 

2.4 In this particular example of VITAMINS manufacturing (Pty) Ltd., who will you consider as the Top management of the company?                       (1) 

 

2.5 Give two (2) motivation for your answer in 2.4?                                                        (4)

                                                              

 

Question 3    [16 MARKS]

 

Despite the obvious benefits of planning, it can also result in the cost to the organisation. As a GM of VITAMINS manufacturing (Pty) Ltd. With practical examples, indicate the tactics you will put in place to avoid incurring the costs while you exercise planning in the organisation.                                                    (16)
