SPSS/Excel Analysis Assignment

MASC 425 Public Relations Research

Assignment objectives:

Evaluation:

This portion of the assignment is out of a total of 80 points. The breakdown of each question is shown below in a very transparent manner.

Instructions:

1. Use the dataset provided in Canvas “ATPW89.sav” which has been modified for this assignment. This original file is from the “April 20 -April 29, 2021 –American Trends

Panel Wave 89” data set provided by the Pew Research Center:

(https://www.pewresearch.org/science/dataset/american-trends-panel-wave-89/). In order to access the original data you need to register with the organization.

2. Login to Apps2Go in order to access SPSS. Here is the URL:

(https://app2go.vcu.edu/cgi/login). Or download SPSS, which makes it much easier to locate data since it is running from your personal computer. I highly recommend the second option.

3. Identify the variables and the corresponding levels of measurement. Then, explain why

you believe the variable corresponds to that level of measurement. Fill in the table

below. You will receive 1 point for each accurate level of measurement and 2 points for

each justification that is coherent and presents sound reasoning while reflecting

knowledge of the subject matter and dataset. (24 points for this section)No. Variable

4. Run descriptive statistics on the following variables: transformed_gender and

transformed_age (2 points each). For each variable, capture screenshots demonstrating

the output results (1 point each) and develop a table in APA style to describe these

results that is labeled appropriately (3 points for style and remember to include a table

title). Provide a written explanation of the results for both gender and age (3 points). (12

points total)

5. Develop two graphs to graphically demonstrate how age affects the way people protect

the environment (use one of the EN6F variables in question 3 and transformed_age) (3

points each graph, be sure to include a figure legend). Write an explanation of why you

chose to visualize the data in the ways that you did (2 points each graph). Which graph

type do you think best visualizes the data (2 points)? (12 points total)

6. Develop two graphs to graphically demonstrate how gender affects the way people

protect the environment (use one of the EN6F variables in question 3 and

transformed_gender) (3 points per graph,be sure to include a figure legend). Write an

explanation of why you chose to visualize the data in the ways that you did (2 pointseach graph). Which graph type do you think best visualizes the data (2 points)? (12

points total)

7. Run Chi-Square tests to show how gender affects a) the amount of meat people eat

(EN6F1_a) and b) the amount of plastics people use (EN6F1_c). Capture a screenshot

of the results (1 point each) and develop a table for each frequency and percent in APA

style (2 points each). Finally, interpret the results of each Chi-Square analysis (4 points

each). (14 points total)

8. Develop a reliability analysis of a scale consisting of all responses in CLIMENO(a-f).

Please capture the screenshot of the output (2 points). Then, explain what the scale

would describe (2 points) and how reliable it is (2 points). (6 points total)
