"The rise and subsequent stalling of the BRICS's economic ascent towards 'high-income country status' can be attributed to, first, their initial efforts to promote both growth and the delivery of basic public goods, and second, to their subsequent inability, if not unwillingness, to prevent the emergence of significant socio-economic inequalities in their societies".
