Image Atlas Assignment

This project will allow you to explore various staining techniques by creating an Image Atlas.

You can choose to work individually or with a partner.  You will create an Image Atlas describing various stains. This exercise is meant to help you learn and retain important information about the stains used in the Histology Lab.  What tissues they are used on, why they are used, the basic theory of how the stains work, and review the finished product/slides from your work.

Each student will secure an image of five (5) different stains used in the histology lab.  A photo image is required.

If you work with another student, this means you must select 10 stains to work on, 5 stains each, and each student will submit their Image Atlas separately: 5 stains in your individual atlas. I am allowing the collaboration as it exposes you to discussion and research of more stains, but you must be working on a total of 10 to collaborate.  You may also choose to work on your own.  There is no requirement to work with another student.

Determine a method to present the images with the following information:

  • tissue type stain is used for.
  • stain name, official name and acronym, if any
  • basic theory of the stain and the staining process
  • key reagents required and used.
  • tissues and cells identified or targeted by the stain.
  • how the stain helps in diagnosis of patient disease.
  • Are there any follow up studies that might be required if the stain shows results that indicate more study is needed.

Present your findings in an organized and creative fashion.  Include all references with full APA citations.

Submit your project in the dropbox below.  Individual submissions are required even if you worked with a partner (see explanation above).
