1) Choose EITHER Option A or Option B for your initial post
1) Choose EITHER Option A or Option B for your initial post.
Option A:
A survey is conducted to determine the proportion of young adults who earn less than $15,000. Two sampling methods are being considered. Method A involves standing on a downtown street corner and randomly picking several young adults to interview every 10 minutes during a 12-hour period. Method B involves posting the question on several popular young adult Websites; the viewer simply has to click on one of two possible answers to participate.
- State a possible source of bias for Method A, and describe how it may affect the results.
- State a possible source of bias for Method B, and describe how it may affect the results.
Option B:
Does cell phone radiation increase a person’s risk of getting cancer? How can an observational study be performed?
2. Give them Feedback about their writing. Don't use he/she/they
a.
Option A:
1) The person asking the random people of downtown may have their own sub conscious bias of only asking those who look a certain way.
2) The content of the website may only attract a limited or specific type of young adult to be asked the question.
b.
Option B:
An observational study involving what is a person’s risk of getting cancer from cell phone would perform a cohort study which would link a group of “like” people who use cells phones and have cancer. The one performing the research would compare what happens to people of the cohort exposed to a variable to other people who have not used cell phones with cancer. A problem with observational studies would be the outcome, if cell phone radiation is a possible cause of cancer versus other alternatives that may be the cause of cancer, would be know as confounding bias.
c.
Option A
1. An in person survey could be influenced by where the survey is conducted, if a surveyor may influence results based on where and who they ask, especially if they target younger adults
2. The main source of bias for a website is that most websites are geared towards a specific set of people, be it CNN or FOX, or a website aimed at older vs. younger people.
