Assignment #3 – Final Project (30%)

Through this assignment you will apply many of the learnings from the course. There are two parts to complete.

Instructions

Part 1 – Track Changes

You will demonstrate editing, formatting, margins, numbered lists, working with images and more.

Download the Assignment 3 Part 1 Original Student Document from Week 13 and save a copy of the document to your own storage drive for editing. (Ensure you use the document version for Part 1, not Part 2). Read the article.

Then follow the instructions below to apply changes to a document:

  1. In the Review tab on the Ribbon, go to the Tracking group, click the Track

Changes button and from the drop-down options select Track Changes. Then set the Display for Review option to No Markup.

  1. Change the font of the entire document to Arial, black/automatic, font size 10.
  2. For the title of the article at the top of the page, change the font to your choice of WordArt.
  3. Resize the WordArt text to size 16 and aligned to the center of the page. (Note: WordArt creates a text box that you may have to move and resize to the width of the page in order to have step 5 appear correctly.)
  4. Make the author’s name aligned to the right margin.
  5. Each paragraph heading should be font size 14.
  6. Using the Line Spacing option, change the spacing to 1.0. Select “Remove Space after Paragraph”. Set the Spacing Before box to Auto.
  7. Change the page margins to Narrow.
  8. Change the page orientation to Portrait.
  9. Set the page alignment to Fully Justified.
  10. Using Find & Replace in the Editing group of the Home tab, change all occurrences of the words “a variety” to now read “an assortment”.
  11. Shrink/resize the picture, apply Tight text wrapping, and move it to the left of the Instant Help paragraph.
  12. At the end of the document, type in the top 3 things about Microsoft Word that you learned in this course that you find the most useful or interesting. Put them in a Numbered List.
  13. Add a page border. Set it as Box style, with a solid line, standard colour blue, 1 pt. width.
  14. Save this finished Word document as Name Assignment 3 Part 1.docx (e.g. Chris_Smith_Assignment_3_ Part_1.docx).

Note: When you are finished, your entire document should fit on one page.

Part 2 – Research, Write & Reference

You will demonstrate aspects of using Word to create a research paper including citations and referencing, table of contents, page numbers, headers and footers, and title page.

Download the Assignment 3 Part 2 Original Student Document from Week 13 and save a copy of the document to your own storage drive for editing. (Ensure you use the document version for Part 2, not Part 1).

In Step 13 of Part 1 above, you listed the top 3 things about Microsoft Word that you learned in this course. Now you will choose one of them, do further research about this aspect of Word, and write one or two paragraphs related to this topic with sources that are cited and referenced in APA format. For example, if one of the items that you listed in Step 13 was inserting graphics, then you could choose to focus on that, and provide additional information on Pictures, Shapes, Smart Art, and/or other elements. Or, if you mentioned Tables in Step 13, you might want to research and write about Word tables, how to work with them, and why they are helpful.

Start your research by using the tools in the Research group of the References tab of the Ribbon in Word. This may include the Researcher command, and/or Smart Lookup. If your version of Word does not have the Research group tools, or if you do not find appropriate sources this way, you may use an internet browser to find the information you need.

Your assignment includes the following and meets the specified criteria:

  1. Using the Assignment 3 Part 2 Original Student Document, one written paragraph on the Word command/area/topic of your choice is placed at the end of the current article.
  2. At least 2 sources are included in your written paragraph, cited in APA using the Insert Citation command.
  3. Your new paragraph includes a heading consisting of a few words to signify what it is about.
  4. The main body of text for the entire document shows as Normal style with the font Times New Roman 12 pt. throughout.
  5. Headings for each section in the document show the style as being Heading 2, with Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, and bolded.
  6. Margins set as Normal.
  7. 0.5” indentation from the left margin for the start of each new paragraph.
  8. Double spaced.
  9. A header and/or footer.
  10. Page Numbers.
  11. One image relevant to the document’s subject is inserted within your document in a location of your choice.
  12. The image size does not exceed 2”x 2”.
  13. The image is cited in APA format, and includes an Alt Text description.
  14. Using the Bibliography command, cited sources appear in a References section at the end of the document in APA format.
  15. A Title Page that includes the name of the article, the author, plus your name and email address.
  16. An automatic Table of Contents.
  17. Spell checked and free of spelling, grammar, spacing, and punctuation issues.
  18. Using the Word Count tool, ensure the document is at least 600 words in length, not including References.
  19. Saved as a Word file using the naming format Name Assignment 3 Part 2.docx (e.g.

Chris_Smith_Assignment_3_Part_2.docx).

Refer to the grading rubric for how this assignment will be marked.
